Description
“Otepemisiwak, The People Without Bosses is an exhibition of prints that includes a small scale installation of cardboard canoes, a lowrider bicycle, and an indigenous readymade. Otepemisiwak, meaning ‘the people who own themselves’, is an indigenous word used to describe the Michif or Métis people. Artist Dylan A.T. Miner evokes this concept in his new exhibition of works revolving around indigenous issues, social justice, and working-class politics. Though he was born and raised in rural Michigan, Otepemisiwak, The People Without Bosses is Miner's first solo exhibition in Michigan. Dr. Miner is an Assistant Professor of Transcultural Studies at MSU's Residential College of Arts & Humanities, where he is affiliated with both American Indian Studies and Chicano/Latino Studies. An artist, critic, and historian, Miner employs art as a mode for anti-colonial and anti-capitalist resistance.
