Grammy-nominated Tiempo Libre, one the hottest young Latin bands today, returns by popular demand after their energetic performance at Wharton Center in 2006. Equally at home in concert halls, jazz clubs and dance venues, the Miami-based band has become known for their incendiary, joyful performances, irresistible dance- inducing mix of high-voltage Latin jazz and the seductive rhythms of their native Cuba. Reinterpreting and reinvigorating traditional Cuban music with a youthful, modern sound, Tiempo Libre has forged a new style born from the meeting of their Cuban roots and their new American experience.

Wharton Center presents Tiempo Libre in collaboration with the MSU College of Music. A special performance of “Rumba Sinfónica,” a new piece for symphony orchestra and Cuban band composed by highly respected Venezuelan classical composer and MSU College of Music faculty member Ricardo Lorenz, will be performed with the MSU Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Raphael Jimenez.
